The Road Goes Ever On and On...

...but the particular path that my favorite Tolkien scholar, John Rateliff, took in writing The History of the Hobbit: Mr. Baggins is finally nearing the end. The last chapters have been reached. The final touches are being added. And soon it will wend its way to Christopher Tolkien for final approval before publication.

Congratulations, John! Kudos to you (and your very, very patient wife, Janice), for sheparding the work to its end.

For those of you who haven't had the chance to read parts of it in advance, I found the chapters are not just throughly researched, but also very readable with a touch of light humor. I rate it a must have for anyone who loves the world of Middle Earth.

Currently, the book is only available as a preorder in the UK which you can order from amazon.co.uk here. Wolf's already pre-ordered our copy, which we're expecting this fall.

Was going to ask if it was going to be available in the US, but your Simian Sovereign husband answered that in his blog.

So I'll just drop a note here to say hiya. :)
